What is BPS?
Does your Baby Bottle or Food Pouch contain the dangerous chemical BPS?
Just when we thought plastics were safe, having been cleansed of BPA, along came its replacement, the chemically similar BPS.
So what is BPS?
After health concerns associated with bisphenol A grew in 2012, BPS began to be used as a replacement. However, a study by Dr. Cheryl Watson, a University of Texas Medical Branch professor in Galveston, and graduate student René Viñas published in January, concludes that BPS appears to create the same problems as BPA.
The problem: Trace amounts of chemical substances gradually leach out of the plastic into the food and might eventually get into the body. This can affect small children and infants in particular.
Experts and studies have seen disruptions to the hormone system and brain, diabetes and heart damage as well as an increased risk of cancer. Our article here explores further.
How do I know if the plastic product I am buying contains BPA or BPS?
It’s important to check that the product you are purchasing has been tested for both BPA and BPS. This is important for any storage product has is holding food or liquids that will be heated as these chemicals are known to leach when heated. Both BPA and BPS are only found in plastics.
Glass is 100% clean and pure with no chemicals to leach.
