Is breast best?

Cherub Baby - Monday, January 17, 2011

We know some mum's often have a hard time when trying to breast feed - not all of you but some do. And for those that struggle with learning to breast feed this can sometime lead to a path of guilt and often depression. Other times mum and bub adapt to breast feeding brilliantly or after a little trial & error and bub takes breast milk regularly.

We are however all taught as women growing up that breast milk is best for your baby and that the natural and 'right' thing to do is to breast feed. Well is it?

Yes there are no doubt numerous nutrients and bonding that comes from breastfeeding but ultimately a happy mum equals a happy bub and if breastfeeding is not something that is an enjoyable bonding experience and if it doesn't make mum feel happy then the benefits may not materialise. Perhaps bub will get the nutrients he or she needs but perhaps not the bonding as mum is too stressed. And mum may suffer emotionally too much so that those bad emotional effects may outweigh the good.

Either way you look at it, it is a hard choice but the choice should be yours and your partner’s alone. Do what is right for you and what makes you happy and relaxed. Breastfeeding is not for everyone so please don't feel guilty about not doing it. These days there are a lot of breast feeding products available in the market to suit every lifestyle and more importantly every budget; after all every new mum deserves an enjoyable and fantastic experience into motherhood.
